Last Saturday, April 11, the Cabildo de Tenerife organized the Isla Violeta Festival, an initiative dedicated to promoting gender equality and raising awareness about crucial issues such as work-life balance and shared responsibility. In collaboration with the Puerto de la Cruz City Council, the event offered more than 30 free activities across various locations in the municipality, aiming to involve all citizens in building a more equitable society.
The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, accompanied by the island director of Equality and Diversity, Patricia León, and the Equality councilor of Puerto de la Cruz, David Hernández, attended the festival. The program included options for all ages, from storytelling to concerts and exhibitions, with the goal of encouraging active participation from Tenerife society in the fight for gender equality.
“"The event has an intergenerational approach, highlighting the importance of involving new generations in defending women's rights and advancing towards real equality."
The festival's program was part of the Cabildo's actions for International Women's Day, with this year's focus on shared care responsibilities and the equitable distribution of household tasks. Councilor David Hernández emphasized that Puerto de la Cruz continues to consolidate its position as a benchmark in defending women's rights, with feminist policies at the center of public debate.
The event's hub was the Plaza de la Iglesia del Puerto de la Cruz, where activities such as the musical performance by Maracatú 4.1, concerts by the Sax Pack Big Band and Paradise Swing Canarias took place. Storytelling sessions like “Los Tesoros de la Abuela” with Samantha Moreno, and the monologue “El reparto” with Carmen Cabeza, were also offered.
Additionally, documentaries produced by the Cabildo, such as “Las mujeres rurales en la Transición Española” and “Triángulos Rosas”, were screened. The day also featured interactive workshops in the Olympe de Gouges Tent and the Municipal Women's Center Tent, as well as exhibitions like “Escritoras canarias” and “La conquista de los derechos de las mujeres”. A guided tour, “Rincones con Perspectiva”, highlighted the legacy of prominent women from Puerto de la Cruz.
