The event, promoted by the insular Animal Welfare department of the Cabildo de Tenerife, exceeded expectations in its second edition, bringing together animal shelters, associations, professionals, specialized businesses, and families interested in pet care over two days.
The insular counselor for Animal Welfare, Valentín González, positively assessed the results, highlighting that the fair met its objectives of promoting responsible pet ownership, raising awareness against animal abandonment, and actively encouraging adoption.
The fair experienced significant growth compared to the previous year, doubling its exhibition space to 65 stands. Various entities participated, including the Neotrópico Foundation, the Official College of Veterinarians of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the Bar Association of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, contributing health, social, legal, and educational perspectives to animal welfare.
A central focus was to highlight the work of animal shelters and volunteers in Tenerife, who play a crucial role in caring for abandoned animals and finding responsible homes. González emphasized the growing interest of Tenerife society in animal welfare and recalled the Cabildo's support for institutional recognition of these entities, which are fundamental to achieving "zero abandonment".
The program included interactive workshops for children, educational talks, canine exhibitions, and round tables. Adoption parades showcased numerous animals seeking homes, detailing the processes and requirements to ensure their well-being. Raising awareness against abandonment and educating on basic care and responsible coexistence were key themes, particularly aimed at children and families.
The fair's final message stressed that animal protection is a shared responsibility among institutions, specialized entities, and society as a whole.
