UD Las Palmas faces the promotion playoffs to LaLiga once again, a path that has historically been more about disappointment than success for the club.

With the increasing likelihood that UD Las Palmas will have to seek promotion to LaLiga through the playoffs, the club's history in these decisive stages becomes relevant. An analysis of past precedents reveals that tradition does not favor the yellow team, which has only successfully culminated one of the four occasions it has competed in these promotion playoffs.
UD's first experience in this promotion format in the Second Division dates back to the 2012-2013 season, under the management of Sergio Lobera. On that occasion, the team could not overcome Almería, losing in extra time of the second leg played in the Andalusian capital after a controversial ending.
The following season, 2013-2014, was marked by Lobera's dismissal and the arrival of Josico, who managed to qualify the team for the final. However, the fateful "Cordobazo" against Córdoba, with a goal conceded in the final moments of extra time, dashed promotion hopes on June 22, 2014, an episode still remembered for its intensity and the subsequent regrettable incidents.
Redemption arrived in 2015. After another season in the playoffs, UD, managed by Paco Herrera, achieved the longed-for promotion to LaLiga, ending more than a decade away from the elite. This promotion was secured after overcoming Valladolid and Zaragoza, marking the only time the club has celebrated success in this phase.
The most recent experience dates back to 2022, with García Pimienta at the helm. The team qualified for the playoffs at the last minute and faced Tenerife in a tense Canarian derby. Despite the hope generated by a comeback at home, the defeat against the island rival in the second leg was a severe blow to the fans.
