The academic institution has granted this distinction to a human rights expert and UN rapporteur, as well as a renowned macroeconomist linked to the University of Pennsylvania. Both profiles were supported by a large majority in the ordinary session held this July 24th.
During the same session, the rector of the University of La Laguna addressed the recent institutional visit to the Western Sahara before the collegiate body. The academic leader apologized for the shortcomings in the planning and communication of said trip, reaffirming his commitment to transparency and dialogue with the affected social organizations.
In the teaching section, three new micro-degrees focused on film language, visual communication, and technical documentation of cultural heritage were approved. These specific training programs, which will begin in the 2026-27 academic year, seek to offer practical specialization to students from various branches of humanities and arts.
Finally, the council approved the creation of two new institutional chairs dedicated to cultural heritage and territorial development, resulting from the collaboration with the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife and the Center for Initiatives and Tourism of Northeast Tenerife, with the aim of promoting research and knowledge transfer.
