The CSIF union of the Local Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has requested an 'extraordinary productivity' bonus from the City Council for the officers who participated in the security operation during the visit of Pope Leo XIV.
The Independent and Civil Servants Union (CSIF) has sent a letter to the Human Resources department requesting a bonus for the officers who worked during the papal visit. The union highlights that the Local Police was one of the municipal services that maintained a 'fully operational' presence, ensuring citizen safety, traffic regulation, and coordination with other emergency services.
CSIF recalls that while numerous municipal administrative services remained closed or operated remotely, Local Police officers reported for duty to 'guarantee the proper development of an exceptional event, which gathered thousands of people and required a significant deployment of resources'.
The union believes that the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council should pay an extra bonus to the officers. According to CSIF delegate Jesús Carlos Illada Pérez, many local police officers 'had to face significant family reconciliation difficulties', particularly due to disruptions in the usual organization of educational centers during the visit.
The union insists that the City Council should recognize the effort made by the local police officers who participated in this special operation, mentioning 'extraordinary services, shift modifications, permanent availability, and family reconciliation difficulties assumed by the officers for the visit to proceed with absolute normality'.
