The initiative, promoted by the Tenerife Island Council through its Sports department, has reached an unprecedented number of young athletes, aged between 6 and 16, who took part in activities held between October and June. This program is solidifying its role as one of the most stable sports initiation actions in the Canary Islands.
The island's Sports Counselor, Yolanda Moliné, highlighted that the Cabildo Games serve as an 'entry point to sports' for thousands of schoolchildren and a crucial tool for promoting healthy lifestyles, as well as instilling values such as effort, camaraderie, and respect.
This year, 29 sports disciplines were offered, ranging from individual and team sports to aquatic, traditional, and contact sports. The variety included chess, athletics, basketball, handball, Canarian wrestling, swimming, surfing, volleyball, sailing, among others, allowing each child to find an activity suited to their interests.
Throughout the season, 244 competitions were held across 37 sessions, distributed among 28 municipalities in Tenerife. This extensive geographical coverage aims to decentralize sports practice and make it accessible in all areas of the island.
The 2025-2026 edition recorded a total of 51,490 uses, a significant increase compared to the previous season. The number of athletes also grew by 809, reaching 12,386 registered participants, marking a new record for the program as it approaches its 40th anniversary.
Notably, the female participation has consolidated, surpassing male participation for the third consecutive year with 58.02% of the total. This figure reinforces the growing prominence of women in Tenerife's grassroots sports and the commitment to equal opportunities.
Beyond the numbers, the Island Council emphasizes the educational and social value of the Games, promoting health, coexistence, and social cohesion. The counselor thanked the families, federations, clubs, municipal schools, and town councils for their involvement in the organization.
