Young climbing talent Lucía Sempere shared her impressions after participating in the women's boulder qualifying round of the World Climbing Series Community of Madrid 2026, held in Alcobendas. Despite not reaching the semifinals, Sempere expressed satisfaction with her performance, highlighting the minimization of technical errors and improvement in her competition strategy.
The athlete explained that her main focus is not on immediate results but on personal progress and enjoying the process. "I don't just focus on the result, I focus on the fact that I competed very well and how I minimized all the mistakes I usually make," she stated. Sempere emphasized the importance of physical preparation, although she acknowledges she still has room for improvement in areas like bouldering and gym training, complementing her technical strength.
Regarding competitive tension, Sempere described the moment before starting as the most intense, but noted that it disappears once she steps onto the mat. The climber also expressed gratitude for the reception in Madrid, where the crowd contributed to her motivation. "I felt very welcome and I felt super happy, honestly. Regardless of the result and all that, I climbed very contentedly," she declared.
Looking ahead, Lucía Sempere expressed her desire for Spanish athletes to gain greater international recognition. "I would like us to be taken into account internationally, because Spain is not usually one of the first countries you think of when you talk about high international level," she commented, hoping for a change in the global perception of Spanish talent in climbing.
