The arrest took place in the municipality of Arona, in the south of the island, during an operation by the Police Intervention Unit (UPRI) of the General Corps of the Canarian Police (CGPC). The individual was intercepted near a hotel complex.
The action of the canine unit was decisive. The police dog indicated a young man in the area, leading officers to proceed with his identification and a subsequent search.
During the search, police officers located a total of 183.73 grams of hashish among the detainee's belongings. Following the discovery, the corresponding proceedings were initiated for an alleged public health offense.
The Government of the Canary Islands has highlighted the effectiveness of canine units in detecting narcotic substances and police coordination in incidents affecting public order, such as this case in Arona.
