Under the slogan "Boycott as an expression of solidarity among peoples," the Exconvento de Santo Domingo in La Laguna became an epicenter of political analysis, cultural resistance, and educational commitment for Palestine. The event, which took place last weekend on April 17 and 18, was attended by over 150 people.
Organized by the collective Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions against Israel (BDS Tenerife), the meeting collaborated with various organizations from across the archipelago. Its main objective was to denounce the situation of apartheid and genocide in the occupied territories and to weave a network of support that transcends borders and consciences.
“"Boycott as a form of organized response is a pressure tool that works."
One of the central themes was the analysis of the current geopolitical situation through the lens of International Humanitarian Law. Additionally, a particularly moving segment was dedicated to education, highlighting the project "Palestinian childhood beats in our school" presented by CEIP Las Mercedes, which was described as an inspiration for public education that can sow seeds of radical tenderness and justice.
Another fundamental block featured the work of various collectives, confirming the immense solidarity efforts by civil society in the Canary Islands towards Palestine in recent years. This space aimed to unite ideas and proposals.
Among the coordinated work agreements reached during the sessions, which brought together collectives from La Gomera, La Palma, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and Lanzarote, were the boycott of the Israeli pharmaceutical company TEVA, platforms like AirB&B for renting homes in occupied territories, the continuation of the campaign "Papas con Mojo Sí, Con Sangre No," and support for the educational initiatives presented.
