This operation mobilizes personnel from various military units who will conduct patrols both on foot and in vehicles. This coordinated action covers all eight inhabited islands and is part of the so-called Permanent Operations, an essential contribution of the Armed Forces to National Security during normal periods.
The deployment is distributed among several Army units, each with specific responsibilities on different islands. The Soria 9 Infantry Regiment (RI 9) will operate in Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and La Graciosa. Meanwhile, the Tenerife 49 Infantry Regiment (RI 49) will focus its activities on the island of Tenerife, while in Gran Canaria, tasks will fall to the Canary Islands 50 Infantry Regiment. The 93rd Field Artillery Regiment will operate in La Gomera and El Hierro, and the XVI Sapper Battalion will carry out its duties on the island of La Palma, thus ensuring comprehensive coverage of the entire Canarian territory.
The planned patrols combine motorized movements with foot patrols, allowing for effective surveillance of sensitive areas, improving reaction capabilities, and consolidating detailed knowledge of the island environment. These actions also facilitate the updating of logistical, geographical, and social information, which is crucial for future missions or emergency needs. The unique geography of the Canary Islands, fragmented into several islands and strategically located in the Atlantic, makes these deployments a key tool in national defense planning.
In addition to patrol duties, several units will conduct informative and educational activities in schools. In Fuerteventura, personnel from the Soria 9 Regiment will offer a talk at IES Jandía this Tuesday and a static exhibition of military equipment at IES Corralejo on May 11. In Tenerife, personnel from the Tenerife 49 Regiment will visit the San Agustín educational center on Wednesday to give talks on the work of the Canary Islands Tactical Group and the functions performed by the Armed Forces in the archipelago.
