Museos de Tenerife joins the celebration of International Museum Day 2026 with a special program that includes guided tours to unique pieces and collections not usually on display to the public.

The institution has organized activities for all audiences at the Museum of History and Anthropology of Tenerife (MHAT) and the Museum of Natural Sciences, under the ICOM-proposed theme: ‘Museums: Connecting a Divided World’.
The Minister of Culture and Museums of Tenerife, José Carlos Acha, highlighted that this initiative aims to bring the scientific, historical, and cultural heritage preserved in the museums closer to the public, showcasing spaces and pieces that are usually off-limits.

"Museums today are places of encounter, reflection, and dialogue, capable of connecting different generations and sensibilities through knowledge and culture."

Guided tours of the Museum of Natural Sciences, part of the Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA), will take place on May 19th and 21st at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Relevant collections such as the black devil fish (Melanocetus johnsonii), collected in February 2025 off the coast of Tenerife, and various types of meteorites will be exhibited.
Meanwhile, the Museum of History and Anthropology of Tenerife, at its Casa Lercaro headquarters, will offer guided tours titled ‘Objects Ordered, Worlds Connected’ on May 18th, 19th, 21st, and 22nd. These tours will explore how museums classify and interpret their collections, allowing access to reserve areas and fostering critical reflection on cataloging and social inclusion.
