The initiative, which seeks to redevelop a property ceded by the State in November 2022, includes the provision of 63 residential places in supported housing and 40 day care places. The project, to be funded by the III Plan de Infraestructuras Sociosanitarias de Canarias, does not yet have a specific start date.
The Institute of Social and Sociosanitary Care (IAS) has estimated the construction costs at nearly 8 million euros, with an execution period of 15 months. The goal is to offer support to individuals with intellectual disabilities requiring partial supervision and to dependent elderly individuals.
The building, spanning 4,300 square meters and dating back to 1952, is currently in a state of disrepair and requires comprehensive renovation. Historically, it has housed residences, offices, and a supermarket, and was also the first location for Galerías Preciados in Gran Canaria.
The property has been ceded by the State to the Cabildo for a period of 20 years, with the possibility of extension.
