Nueva Canarias parliamentary spokesperson Luis Campos has raised the possibility of a confidence vote for Pedro Sánchez's government if the trust of its partners weakens.

The parliamentary spokesperson for Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista, Luis Campos, stated that the judicialization of politics "distracts from what it should really be, decision-making to improve people's lives." In an interview on the program 'Herrera en COPE Gran Canaria', he affirmed that the constant appearance of headlines about alleged corruption cases contributes to societal weariness and the rise of populist and reactionary discourse.
Campos has opened the door to the idea that, if there is an absolute weakening of confidence in a government, "a confidence motion is possible to try and revalidate it by the partners who might exist." However, he clarified that this path would only be relevant if there are "absolutely clear indications of the government's involvement in a corruption case," and not due to the actions of people in its circle.

"When confidence in a government begins to weaken absolutely, a confidence motion is possible"

Regarding recent judicial cases, Campos reiterated his party's position of demanding "maximum respect for the action of justice" and, at the same time, "maximum respect for the presumption of innocence of all individuals." He cited cases affecting Podemos leaders, who "for years were legally attacked, and then everything, absolutely everything, came to nothing." He also recalled that his party never requested the resignation of Fernando Clavijo due to his legal proceedings, stating that "when issues are being judicially processed, the aim should be to let justice act."
Concerning the rise of the far-right, Campos denied that Pedro Sánchez's continued presence in the Government is the main catalyst. In his view, this political sector has its own agenda to criminalize immigrants, deny gender-based violence, or oppose regional self-governance, regardless of who holds power.

"The far-right does not need excuses to grow"

In electoral terms, the spokesperson ruled out a near-future coalition with the Socialist Party, confirming that Nueva Canarias will not pursue one. He explained that the only time they ran together in general elections was almost ten years ago and that each electoral event follows different dynamics.
