The apostolic visit of Pope Leo XIV to Tenerife and Gran Canaria on June 11 and 12 will cause significant traffic restrictions, including dynamic highway closures and temporary shutdowns.

Thousands of drivers on both islands will be affected by an extensive traffic operation designed to facilitate pilgrim mobility. The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has approved extraordinary parking measures and restrictions for heavy vehicles.
In Tenerife, the most complex day will be Friday, June 12. The Northern Highway (TF-5) will experience dynamic closures and temporary access interruptions between 08:45 and 11:45 AM, particularly affecting the connection between La Laguna and Santa Cruz. Other roads such as the TF-13, TF-24, TF-152, and TF-235 will also face limitations.
As a new measure, extraordinary parking will be enabled on the TF-4, the access road to the port area of Santa Cruz, to accommodate the massive influx of vehicles. Early arrival at the scheduled events is recommended.
The circulation of trucks over 7,500 kilos and vehicles carrying dangerous goods will be prohibited on Friday, June 12, between 06:00 AM and 6:00 PM on sections of the TF-1, TF-2, TF-4, and TF-5, except for emergency vehicles and essential services.
In Gran Canaria, restrictions will begin on Thursday, June 11. The GC-1, GC-3, and the area around the San José tunnel (GC-31) will experience dynamic closures, especially between 10:30 AM and 1:15 PM on Thursday, and between 7:30 AM and 8:30 AM on Friday.
Authorities remind the public that closure times are dynamic and subject to adjustment. It is advisable to check traffic conditions before departing, plan trips in advance, and consider using public transport.
