The President of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, received a delegation from the Club Deportivo Ámate Tenerife this Wednesday. The team consists of women breast cancer survivors who recently made history by representing Canary Islands for the first time at the International Dragon Boat Fest in Barcelona, one of the most significant international events in this sport.
The team, affiliated with the Ámate Association, secured a commendable third place in a competition that brought together over 2,000 oncological patients from various countries. Their participation represented not only a significant sporting challenge but also a testament to personal overcoming, visibility, and hope for thousands of women.
During the meeting, the president congratulated the athletes on their achievements and for becoming a role model for Canarian society.
“"You represent strength, perseverance, and the ability to transform a difficult experience into a message of hope for many people. The Canary Islands are proud of this achievement."
For their part, one of the members of the Club Deportivo Ámate expressed gratitude for the institutional recognition received.
“"It is an honor for us that our effort is valued. We want to continue conveying that it is possible, that sport helps regain confidence, and that there is life after an oncological process."
The athletes used the reception to reiterate their commitment to continuing to raise awareness about the reality of people who have overcome cancer and to encourage those going through the illness to maintain hope and trust in their abilities.
