Passenger Evacuated from Tenerife Tests Positive for Hantavirus After In-Flight Symptoms

One of five individuals transported from the Canary Islands to Paris has seen her health condition worsen following the diagnosis.

A woman evacuated from Tenerife to Paris, who developed symptoms during the flight, has tested positive for hantavirus, as confirmed by the French Minister of Health.

The passenger was among a group of five French citizens transported on Sunday from the vessel HV Hondius, docked in Tenerife, to the French capital. During the air journey, the woman began to exhibit symptoms consistent with the illness.

"After those initial symptoms while flying to Paris from the Canary Islands, that woman's condition «has worsened tonight»."

The French Minister of Health also reported that 22 individuals have been identified as close contacts of the affected person and will be placed in isolation as a precautionary measure.
