Pedri González, a key player for FC Barcelona and a native of Tegueste, has shared his optimism about the future of Spanish football and the Catalan club, pointing to the quality of young talents being developed. In a conversation with EL DÍA, the midfielder placed special emphasis on Tommy Marqués, a player in his position who joined the club from Europa and recently shone in the youth Copa de Campeones against CD Tenerife and UD Las Palmas.
"Yes, there are players at La Masía and also in the national team who are coming through with a lot of level, a lot of talent. The future is in good hands," stated Pedri. "There are several names, footballers who are rising and are very good. Tommy Marqués, for example, has just been promoted and has many qualities. They are young players and have things to polish, but I hope they have a very good career. With them and others coming up, the future is well secured," added the Tenerife native, who joined the Barça first team directly without passing through La Masía.
“"My family always told me I had the qualities to make it, to trust, to believe. But with hard work. If you try without working, you're done for. I knew I had that possibility, but I was also aware it would be complicated."
Pedri also reflected on his own beginnings and the advice he received. "My family always told me I had the qualities to make it, to trust, to believe. But with hard work. If you try without working, you're done for. I knew I had that possibility, but I was also aware it would be complicated," he confessed. The footballer also evoked his grandfather, expressing the wish that he could have seen his current career: "My father tells me, I was just talking to him yesterday. I wish my grandfather were alive. I'm sure he remembers me from heaven and is still proud. From what they tell me, he would be the biggest fan. My father says grandfather would even be living with me in Barcelona, going to all the matches, not missing a single one."
