The Mobility department of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has launched an action plan to enhance road safety in seven areas of the municipality, prioritizing the vicinity of CEIP Ágora in Somosierra. This initiative aims to protect pedestrians and improve mobility in a zone with significant school traffic.
The first intervention focuses on Marrero Torres street, in the Ofra-Costa Sur district, responding to a neighborhood demand due to the high number of schoolchildren and the area's poor visibility. The project, with an investment of 75,587 euros and executed by Señalizaciones Villar, has a deadline of one and a half months.
The works include the creation of more accessible pedestrian routes, sidewalk extensions at the crosswalk, and the installation of new LED luminous signage at crosswalks and school zone warning signs.
In addition to enhancing the safety of students, the road surface will be renewed with a new layer, specific school zone horizontal signage will be repainted, and road markings reminding drivers of the speed limit will be added. Tactile paving will also be installed at crosswalks to improve accessibility for visually impaired individuals.
This action is the first of seven planned by Mobility in Santa Cruz to improve road safety and pedestrian mobility in neighborhoods with a high concentration of residents and a greater need for accessibility.
