The program aims to enhance the quality of life for seniors through active societal participation, combating social isolation, and fostering personal autonomy and emotional well-being. Activities will take place in both indoor facilities and outdoor settings.
During July, outdoor activities are planned in locations such as Las Teresitas beach, Palmétum, La Caldera, and Parque Taoro in Tenerife, as well as Las Canteras beach in Gran Canaria. The Minister of Social Welfare, Candelaria Delgado, and the Director General of Seniors, Verónica Meseguer, visited one of the workshops at Las Teresitas beach, attended by about twenty users.
The program is divided into two main lines: Senior Day Centers, with specific programs in Tenerife (including physical activity and cognitive stimulation) and on the island of Gran Canaria; and Senior Associations, offering two-hour workshops twice a week at approximately ten centers per province.
The work methodology combines adapted physical activity to maintain mobility and balance, cognitive stimulation to exercise memory and attention, and training and healthy habits through talks and debates on health and well-being.
This initiative is part of the AlGolpito project within the Plan Maresía, developed by the Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with the Fundación del Club Deportivo Tenerife and the Fundación de la Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, promoting active aging and intergenerational solidarity.
