Pope Leo XIV landed at Tenerife North Airport after a short flight from Gran Canaria. Upon arrival, he was welcomed by prominent public figures, including the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo; the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz; the Spanish Ambassador to the Holy See, Isabel Celaá; and the President of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez.
The Pontiff's itinerary in Tenerife includes three main events spread across La Laguna and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The first engagement, scheduled for 9:30 AM at the Las Raíces Reception Center in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, will be dedicated to the migrants housed in these facilities.
This event underscores the central theme of the papal visit to the Canary Islands, focusing on the migration situation. During his time in Gran Canaria, the Pope had already voiced his concern about the Atlantic, urging that it not be normalized into a "graveyard without tombstones".
Following this, at 10:10 AM, the Pope will proceed to the Plaza del Cristo de La Laguna for a meeting with entities and organizations involved in the reception and social integration of migrants. A significant speech is expected from this event, given the current migratory and social context.
The day's main event will be a large mass presided over by Pope Leo XIV at 12:15 PM on the port esplanade of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Thousands of faithful are expected to attend, making it one of the most significant religious gatherings in the Islands in recent decades. This Eucharist will mark the conclusion of his visit to Tenerife and Spain.
