The La Laguna Tenerife team has confirmed that one of its most prominent basketball players suffered a kidney stone attack last Monday. After spending the night hospitalized, the player was discharged on Tuesday morning, although his health condition raises concerns for the crucial upcoming match.
A kidney stone attack, also known as renal colic, is a medical condition caused by the obstruction of the urinary tract, typically by stones. This condition causes sharp and sudden pain in the lower back or abdomen, and recovery usually occurs hours after the episode.
The situation is further complicated as the athlete had been experiencing adductor discomfort, which prevented him from participating in the Champions third-place match against Unicaja. The team's coach, Txus Vidorreta, had previously expressed concern about the player's physical condition, stating that he would not risk a more significant injury.
“"If it had been the final, we would have risked it, but his sensations were bad, and it was advisable not to force it and risk a major injury."
Given this new health setback, the player's presence at the Arena de Gran Canaria for the derby is considered highly unlikely, although in sports, surprises are always possible.
