“"We continue to strongly reinforce and commit to the island's strategic plan 'Tenerife Activa,' and to achieve this, we are intensifying our sports offerings in collaboration with the schools. Following the success of this course, we aim to keep providing opportunities for young people to discover different sports and get hooked on them, also counteracting the significant physical activity gap that emerges with the onset of adolescence."

The Tenerife Island Council has opened the registration period for the Deporte Joven program for the 2026-2027 academic year, aiming to foster physical activity among 3,500 students.
Until next June 30, students on the island can sign up for the initiative designed to boost motivation for regular physical activity, contributing to improved well-being and overall health.
The program includes 98 sessions and will provide collective transport. Hiking and nautical activities are intended for students in the 3rd and 4th year of ESO and the 1st year of Basic Vocational Training Cycles. Additionally, inter-school athletics and ultimate frisbee events will be held for 1st-year high school students.
Nature-based activities are presented as an opportunity for physical and sports education, serving as a tool for learning and environmental awareness. They aim to instill respect and care for the environment, alongside knowledge of the island's ecosystems, flora, and fauna. The Athletics and Ultimate Frisbee events will unfold in various geographical zones of the island, with classified teams proceeding to the semi-final and final stages.
