The rehabilitation of the 88 homes in the Añaza I-10 residential complex in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is progressing with significant investment. The project, funded by European Next Generation EU funds and the Government of the Canary Islands' own resources, aims to improve energy efficiency, accessibility, and resident comfort.
In a meeting with residents, the Director of the Canarian Housing Institute (ICAVI), Pino de León, and the Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, detailed the development of the works. The meeting also included the Councilor for Works and Infrastructure, Javier Rivero, and the Councilor for Housing, Belén Mesa.
The total eligible investment amounts to 1,712,418.48 euros, of which 1,369,934.78 euros come from the European Next Generation EU funds, through the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan. The Government of the Canary Islands contributes 342,483.70 euros, and the works were awarded for 1,673,480 euros.
Pino de León highlighted that this intervention is part of the Government of the Canary Islands' efforts to renovate the public housing stock, improving energy efficiency and comfort. She noted that the rehabilitation will reduce energy consumption and, consequently, residents' electricity bills, while also incorporating improvements such as a new elevator in one of the blocks.
The ICAVI Director recalled that the Government of the Canary Islands is working on over 1,500 public housing units with an investment exceeding 53 million euros. Furthermore, through Next Generation EU funds and in collaboration with island councils and municipalities, the rehabilitation of more than 3,400 private homes is being promoted with an investment close to 70 million euros.
De León emphasized that rehabilitation is a key pillar of the Executive's housing policy, enhancing energy efficiency, accessibility, and families' quality of life. She reiterated that the main priority remains increasing the public housing stock, with over 4,000 units in various stages of execution and planning.
The Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, stated that the rehabilitation of these 88 homes provides a new boost to the transformation underway in Añaza, complementing the City Council's significant work since 2025. He indicated that 709 homes are now involved in rehabilitation processes in the neighborhood, reflecting the commitment of the administrations.
The municipal leader added that the buildings will be more efficient, accessible, and comfortable, enabling families to reduce energy consumption and live in better conditions, which is the true objective of these actions: transforming established neighborhoods and offering a better future to their residents.
The works include replacing existing water heaters with aerothermal systems, dismantling existing window frames in the utility areas and replacing them with new PVC frames, as well as improving accessibility by installing an elevator in block D. The work is being carried out by the company Fachadas DIMUROL S.L. and has an execution period of nine months.
