Maritime Rescue saves a cayuco 10 miles south of El Hierro

The rescue vessel is escorting the cayuco to the port of La Restinga, where the number of people on board will be counted.

A Maritime Rescue vessel has rescued a cayuco located approximately ten miles south of El Hierro and is escorting it to the port of La Restinga.

A vessel from Salvamento Marítimo (Maritime Rescue) has rescued and is escorting a cayuco, located approximately ten nautical miles south of the Canary Island, to the port of La Restinga, in El Hierro. This was reported to EFE news agency by sources from the state-owned society.
The Guardia Civil (Civil Guard) alerted the Salvamento Marítimo center in Tenerife after detecting the suspicious vessel via radar. The alert placed the possible cayuco about 10 miles south of La Restinga.
Following the communication, maritime controllers dispatched the Salvamar Diphda unit, which proceeded rapidly to the indicated position. At 14:15 Canary time, the rescue unit confirmed sighting the cayuco half a mile away and proceeded to escort them to port.
