The San Juan festivities, marked by bonfires and celebrations on the shortest night of the year, will not be a widespread day off across the archipelago. The 2026 labor calendar, approved by the Government of the Canary Islands in August 2025, specifies which localities will observe this day as a holiday.
The reasons for declaring June 24th a holiday vary among the selected municipalities. Some celebrate the traditional San Juan Bautista festivity, while others commemorate their Foundational Festivals, as is the case in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
On the island of Gran Canaria, the municipalities with a holiday are Arucas (San Juan Bautista), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Foundational Festivals), and Telde (San Juan Bautista).
In Lanzarote, the celebration extends to Haría (San Juan) and Tinajo (San Juan Bautista).
Tenerife will observe a holiday in Guía de Isora (San Juan Bautista), Los Silos (San Juan), and San Juan de La Rambla (San Juan Bautista).
La Gomera will have a holiday in Garachico (San Juan), Valle Gran Rey (San Juan), and Vallehermoso (San Juan Bautista).
Finally, on La Palma, Puntallana (San Juan Bautista) will be a holiday, and in El Hierro, El Pinar de El Hierro (San Juan) complete the list.
