The historic club from Gran Canaria, Real Sporting San José, founded 113 years ago, is experiencing a sweet moment and dreams of returning to Tercera RFEF. After overcoming several complicated seasons and category descents, the team is once again competing at a high level.
Having been promoted last season to the Regional Preferente de Las Palmas, Sporting de San José has proven its ability to fight for top positions. The club seeks to regain lost ground since its last great seasons, such as the 2010-11 campaign when it achieved its last promotion, or 2012-13, when it even played promotion playoffs for Segunda B.
“"It's an important milestone. This group has proven to be wonderful, where everyone rows towards the same objective and defends the same crest."
The club's president, Jerónimo Suárez, highlighted the dressing room's human value as a key to their sporting success, pointing to the unity and the coaching staff's work. He emphasized that despite not having significant financial strength, the club compensates for its limited resources with the human quality of its members.
“"The most important thing about this success is demonstrating that things can be done with humble budgets. We are not a club with great economic strength, but we counteract it with the human element."
For his part, captain Juanma Fleitas admitted they expect a great atmosphere in the return match but trusts the team's bravery to face it.
Sporting de San José will face Villaverde from Fuerteventura this Saturday at 4:30 PM in the second leg of the semi-finals. The Gran Canarian team will defend the 2-1 advantage secured in the first leg with the aim of sealing their qualification for the grand final for promotion to Tercera RFEF.
