The council's plenary session has greenlit a series of actions aimed at strengthening the operational tools for TITSA employees, optimizing coordination with security forces, and promoting respect for those who ensure the daily mobility of thousands of citizens.
One of the key measures is the request to the Government of the Canary Islands to modify or develop the Canary Islands Road Transport Organization Law. The objective is for driving and inspection personnel of public regular passenger transport companies to be recognized as having administrative authority.
This status will allow for improved control and surveillance efforts regarding compliance with public transport usage rules, facilitating the processing of incidents and infractions affecting the normal service operations.
“"The plenary session agreed to support that the public company TITSA can take legal action against perpetrators of serious aggressions or disrespect committed against its workers or security personnel serving the company."
The motion also includes requesting the collaboration of state security forces, the Canarian Police, and local police forces to expedite the processing of complaints and ensure coordinated action in situations that may compromise the safety or functioning of the service.
Additionally, training initiatives will be promoted for both police forces and TITSA personnel to enhance knowledge of regulations and administrative procedures. Information and citizen awareness campaigns will also be developed to foster responsible use of public transport and mutual respect.
It is stipulated that TITSA must inform, consult, or negotiate with the legal representation of the workers before implementing any protocol or measure affecting the safety conditions or work organization of the staff.
Through these actions, the Cabildo de Tenerife aims to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of island public transport, strengthening the protection of its professionals and promoting safer and more respectful mobility for all citizens.
