The Tenerife Island Council and Bechtle have unveiled an innovative technical platform that will unify traditional supercomputing, artificial intelligence, and private cloud services on the island, positioning it as a benchmark in Southern Europe.

The new infrastructure, built on Dell PowerEdge technology with AMD EPYC processors and NVIDIA H200 accelerators, will feature a high-speed network and a storage system exceeding 6.7 petabytes. This project aims to create an AI ecosystem from Tenerife for all of Europe.
Island president Rosa Dávila highlighted that this initiative places the island "at the technological elite," with the goal of attracting investment, generating up to 500 skilled jobs, and fostering local talent. The aim is for Tenerife not only to consume technology but to lead, develop, and export it.
Bechtle proposes the creation of the Bechtle HPC & AI Hub – South Europe (B-HAIS) in Tenerife, which would manage supercomputing projects for clients in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, and other countries, leveraging its marketplace with over 70,000 corporate clients.
The center will operate from two locations: a technical site at the ITER's CPD D-ALiX in Granadilla and a corporate site at the Science and Technology Park of Tenerife (PCTT). The service catalog will include artificial intelligence, advanced engineering, audiovisual production and video games, and applied science such as astrophysics and volcanology.
The Minister of Innovation, Juan José Martínez, emphasized that the new Atlantic Supercomputing Center will enable Tenerife to enter the global Top 500 and consolidate itself as an innovation hub.
Bechtle projects a workforce that will grow to 200 professionals within five years, with a commitment to filling at least 70% of positions with Canary Islands residents. The German Dual Study Model will be implemented, including paid training stays in Germany.
Bechtle's investment will be approximately 33 million euros, allocated to talent, physical infrastructure, local ecosystem development, and international commercial traction. The platform will operate under ISO 27001 certifications and compliance with the RGPD and the future EU AI Act.
The B-HAIS is positioned as a sovereign European alternative to major North American hyperscalers, offering computing prices at least 25% lower than equivalent services on AWS or Azure.
