The European Union has mobilized an air ambulance and a coordination official to Tenerife to assist in the disembarkation of passengers from the MV Hondius cruise ship, which arrived at Granadilla port with a hantavirus outbreak.

The vessel MV Hondius docked at Granadilla port in Tenerife during the early hours of Sunday. Disembarkation of its passengers is expected to begin in the coming hours, with transfers planned to Tenerife South Airport, located approximately 10 kilometers from the port.
The European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, confirmed the deployment of these health resources. This action follows a request for assistance from Spain, activated through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.

"A rescEU air ambulance has been dispatched from Norway to Tenerife to address the situation caused by the hantavirus aboard the MS Hondius."

In addition to health support, the European Commission has sent an official to Tenerife. Their mission is to facilitate the coordination of the entire operation at Granadilla de Abona port, in the south of the island, ensuring efficient management of the situation.
The European Union continues to receive offers for evacuation flights from other Member States and maintains additional capacity available to activate more resources if the operation requires it. Brussels continues to coordinate with member countries and partners to support evacuations and provide further assistance.
