Tenerife's electrical grid has seen a significant upgrade thanks to an investment of 2,098,000 euros by Endesa, via its subsidiary e-distribución. These funds were allocated to the completion of seven "electrical ring" projects, designed to increase the resilience and efficiency of the island's energy infrastructure.
This initiative, developed over the past three years, directly impacts the peace of mind of more than 175,000 customers across Tenerife, ensuring a more reliable electricity supply against meteorological or technical unforeseen events. The strategy has focused on equipping the grid with greater response capacity.
The "electrical ring" concept involves connecting transformation centers so they have an alternative medium-voltage power supply. If a main line fails, the system can maintain or restore supply almost immediately through a secondary route, minimizing user disruptions.
“"Tenerife is stronger today"
The investment has been strategically distributed across the island. In Los Silos-Buenavista, 420,000 euros were invested for 1.4 kilometers of new cabling, benefiting 5,000 users. In Tacoronte, 385,000 euros enabled the burial of over two kilometers of lines, improving service in areas like Valle Guerra, Cruz Chica, and La Dehesa, reaching 160,000 customers. In La Matanza, 860 meters of new underground lines have enhanced reliability for 1,500 residents.
Digitalization is key to this transformation, facilitating remote control and supply restoration. This allows technicians to act remotely to restore power in case of a fault, drastically reducing waiting times. In Puerto de la Cruz, 203,000 euros were invested in the area of Mequinez street and Punta Brava.
Other actions include an investment of 340,000 euros in Cercado Mesa-Cruz Chica (La Laguna) to reinforce service for 4,000 customers. In the south, the connection between Las Galletas and El Fraile (Arona) received 250,000 euros to bury one kilometer of new lines. Finally, in Garachico, over 290,000 euros were allocated to close a ring between the FP Garachico and El Muelle transformation centers, ensuring electrical quality for its 5,000 inhabitants.
These works are part of Endesa's vision to lead the energy transition and its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals. Improving grid efficiency and burying lines contribute to reducing the visual and environmental impact in the Canary municipalities, preparing Tenerife for a more sustainable and connected future.
