The entity dependent on the Cabildo de Tenerife, through its Tenerife Convention Bureau (TCB), has traveled to Germany to present the island at IMEX Frankfurt, one of the leading trade shows for meetings, congresses, product launches, and incentive travel. The event, held from May 19th to 21st, brings together professionals from the international events industry.
The primary objective is to position Tenerife as a destination prepared to host large-format events, leveraging its strong air connectivity, extensive accommodation options, and dedicated spaces for professional gatherings. MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism is considered a strategic segment due to its ability to attract professional visitors and generate diversified economic activity.
The vice-president and Minister of Tourism of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso, emphasized the importance of this type of tourism for advancing towards a model of diversification, quality, and added value. He highlighted that professional events not only benefit the tourism sector but also numerous related activities, reaffirming Tenerife's favorable conditions for hosting congresses of various sizes.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Turismo de Tenerife, Dimple Melwani, stressed the significance of new direct air connections to Toronto and Montreal as a key opportunity to strengthen the island's presence in North America and attract corporate events. The reopening of establishments such as the Gran Hotel Taoro and the Radisson Resort & Residences in Puerto de la Cruz, along with the island's general infrastructure offerings, enhances its capacity for large-scale events.
During the fair, technicians from the Tenerife Convention Bureau and about half a dozen associated companies, including hotels and event organizing agencies, have held numerous meetings with industry professionals. Participation in IMEX allows Tenerife to showcase its offerings to a specialized audience and seek new opportunities in a competitive market.
