Baleària Canarias has launched the Mercedes Pinto, a new fast ferry designed to optimize the daily connection between Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Morro Jable (Fuerteventura). This state-of-the-art vessel combines speed, eco-efficiency, and high-quality services, aiming to transform inter-island mobility into a more agile and sustainable experience.
With an investment of 128 million euros, the Mercedes Pinto measures 123 meters in length and can accommodate 1,200 passengers and 425 vehicles. Its speed of 35 knots, along with dual-fuel engines prepared for natural gas and biogas, positions it as a pioneer in reducing the carbon footprint in maritime transport.
Passengers will enjoy spacious and bright areas, digital services, and various accommodation options. Onboard amenities include a cafeteria, shop, WiFi connection, free digital content platform Smart B, reclining seats, and a VIP lounge with panoramic windows. It also features an outdoor terrace, a children's area, and pet-friendly spaces with video surveillance.
Additionally, the ferry offers four Exclusive lounges for groups of six to eight people, equipped with seats, a sofa, smart TV, minibar, and private bathroom, along with internet access and priority boarding.
Baleària Canarias has also strengthened its workforce by hiring nearly a hundred new professionals across the archipelago, as part of its strategy to improve connections and consolidate its quality and safety standards.
The vessel's name pays tribute to Mercedes Pinto, a writer, poet, and educator born in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a prominent 20th-century figure and defender of civil rights, aligning with the company's practice of naming its fleet after influential women in culture and science.
