Titsa lines 100 and 108 in Tenerife are launching new double-decker buses this Tuesday, July 28. These routes connect Puerto de la Cruz and Icod de los Vinos with Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The aim is to meet the high demand from the region and increase transport capacity on the northern highway (TF-5).
Each of these double-decker vehicles can carry 85 passengers, compared to the 59 seats in previous models, representing a 44% increase in capacity per vehicle. Lines 100 and 108 serve over two million travelers annually, predominantly residents commuting for work, academic, or personal reasons.
The new buses are equipped with active safety systems, including an alcohol interlock device for starting (Alcolock), an involuntary lane change warning, and blind-spot sensors to detect pedestrians and cyclists. They also feature digital cameras instead of exterior mirrors and seven interior video surveillance cameras.
In total, the island will have 13 double-decker buses; ten are already operational, and three more will arrive this week. The Cabildo has awarded the purchase of five additional units for 2027. These high-capacity vehicles also operate on the southern highway (TF-1) on direct routes 110 and 112.
This initiative is part of Titsa's fleet renewal plan, which has added 351 new vehicles in the last three years with an investment exceeding 125 million euros. The plan anticipates the incorporation of 57 more buses before the end of the year and an additional 25 interurban units in 2027.
Tenerife's public transport network carried over 87 million passengers last fiscal year, a record high. The fleet modernization has contributed to a 7% reduction in pollutant emissions from the interurban fleet.
