Tourism in the Canary Islands Increases by 1.4% in August

In August, 1.5 million tourists were recorded in the Canary Islands, representing a 1.4 percent increase compared to the same month last year, according to data from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).

The archipelago received 1.5 million visitors in August, a 1.4% increase from the previous year, translating to an additional 20,737 tourists. This data comes from the Statistics on Tourist Movements at Borders (FRONTUR), compiled by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).
Of the total tourists, 82% were from abroad, a sector that grew by 0.3% year-on-year. National tourism, from the rest of Spain, also saw a growth of 6.7%.
The United Kingdom remains the leading source market, accounting for 37.3% of tourists (579,901 people). This is followed by residents from mainland Spain with 17.7% and Germany with 10.8%.
Tenerife was the island that received the highest number of visitors with 603,541, representing 40% of the total. Gran Canaria (24%) and Lanzarote (20%) followed.
The predominant length of stay was between 1 and 7 nights, chosen by 59% of tourists. Only 0.7% extended their stay for more than 31 days. The main reason for travel was vacation.
45.4% of tourists arrived with a contracted package tour, which includes at least transport and accommodation with a fixed price.
Hotels and apartments continue to be the preferred accommodation types, hosting 80.5% of the visitors.
