A regional president has expressed appreciation for the central government's management of the hantavirus outbreak on the MV Hondius cruise ship, while also acknowledging the concerns of his Canarian counterpart.

The president of the Xunta de Galicia has thanked the Spanish Government for the information provided, with whom he has been in contact through a minister, regarding the management of the MV Hondius cruise ship, affected by a hantavirus outbreak. He emphasized the «seriousness» with which the situation is being addressed.

"The central government's management of the situation is proving to be «good»."

Despite his positive assessment, the Galician president noted that, in his opinion, this «decisive intervention» was missed at other times. Nevertheless, he believes that the image Spain is projecting to the world is one of «serious management».
Furthermore, he addressed the statements made by the Canarian president, indicating that «one must put oneself in their shoes» and recalling the latter's criticisms regarding the «lack of information» received, given that his community was the «most affected». The Galician leader expressed his «very good opinion» of his Canarian counterpart, assuring that his comments were made «thinking about having the most information, maximum coordination, and the logical concern for everything that is happening».
Finally, he reported that, although he has not had direct contact with a Galician citizen aboard the cruise ship, his executive has communicated with their close circle, hoping that they can return «to normality» as soon as possible.
