Work to expand the TF-5 highway to three lanes in the direction of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, between Guamasa and Tenerife North Airport, has officially commenced following the signing of the site survey report.

The Ministry of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands has initiated the construction of the third lane on the TF-5 highway, in the section connecting Guamasa and Tenerife North Airport, heading towards Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This intervention, with an investment of 58.1 million euros, aims to significantly enhance the capacity and traffic conditions of this vital island route.
The minister for the area, Pablo Rodríguez, highlighted the importance of the project in alleviating the traffic complexity of the stretch. "This action will allow us to increase the capacity of the TF-5 with a third lane and, furthermore, redesign the Guamasa and San Lázaro interchanges to improve traffic flow and safety conditions," he stated.
For her part, the Director General of Road Infrastructure, Rosana Melián, indicated that the project involves various interventions on the TF-5's route and interchanges to reorganize access and improve traffic flow in this section of the motorway.
The technical team from the Directorate General of Road Infrastructure will hold a meeting with local residents this afternoon to explain the project details, inform them about the work's progress, and address their queries.
The work has been awarded to the joint venture formed by Ferrovial Construcción, S.A. and Asyota Asfaltos y Obras, S.L., for an amount of 58,182,981.26 euros, including IGIC.
The project includes expanding the TF-5 from two to three lanes in the direction of Santa Cruz de Tenerife to increase road capacity and improve conditions for daily drivers. It also involves remodelling the Guamasa and San Lázaro interchanges and constructing a new direct link to Tenerife North Airport. This new configuration will differentiate traffic flows for northern and southern origins and destinations, replacing the current single access system with independent connections.
With the commencement of this project, the Government of the Canary Islands continues to advance in the execution of infrastructures planned under the Road Agreement, aiming to enhance connectivity, safety, and citizen mobility.
