The Department of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood, and Families coordinates this effort through collaboration with town councils, third-sector entities, and other social agents. Minister Candelaria Delgado stated in the Parliament of the Canary Islands that protecting the most vulnerable families requires a broad, coordinated, and adaptable public response, ensuring access to food, essential expenses, and support to face difficulties.
Notable is the call for subsidies for households with minors in situations of poverty, which has seen its initial credit of 918,872 euros increased to 2,621,224.60 euros. These funds finance basic needs such as food, hygiene, school supplies, rent, and utilities, as well as conciliation services and socio-educational support.
The social protection network includes funding for municipal social services, child care programs, social inclusion initiatives, and measures for care and work-life balance. Municipal social services mobilize around 97 million euros, with contributions from the Department, and serve approximately 450,000 people. Additionally, 4.8 million euros are allocated to strengthen basic municipal social benefits.
Other allocations include seven million euros for municipal programs for child and family care, and another seven million for social inclusion and immigration projects. Funding from 0.7% of personal income tax and corporate tax mobilizes 19.48 million euros for 431 social entity projects.
The Canary Citizenship Income, with over 113 million euros, protects 22,000 people. The regional supplement for non-contributory pensions has 16.8 million euros for nearly 42,000 beneficiaries. Minister Candelaria Delgado reaffirmed the commitment to continue improving responses and combining economic resources with close support and collaboration.
