The council will allocate €51,360 per school year, including IGIC, to fund this project, which is entirely financed by the municipal budget. The aim is to strengthen prevention and emotional well-being in classrooms and provide free psychological support to families.
The mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, highlighted that the project addresses emotion management, coexistence, responsible technology use, and addiction prevention from an early age, in coordination with educational centers, teachers, and families.
The Councilor for Education, Olivia Pérez, explained that the project has two lines of action. In the mornings, a team of Psychology professionals will conduct bi-weekly psychoeducational sessions for the 57 groups of 1st to 6th grade Primary Education students at the Carmen Álvarez de la Rosa, Igueste, Araya, Príncipe Felipe, and Punta Larga public schools.
These sessions will focus on promoting emotional well-being, personal development, social skills, prevention of addictive behaviors, and digital education. This work will be complemented by training and information activities for teachers and families.
In the afternoons, a free psychological guidance and support service will be offered in municipal facilities three days a week, aimed at minors, their families, and individuals needing psychological assistance. Access is by referral from the municipal Social Services. In July, this service will operate in the morning.
The 'Interroga-T' project is part of the V Municipal Plan for Addiction Prevention and is technically coordinated by the Addiction Prevention and Insertion Service of the Candelaria City Council.
