The event, held in the auditorium of the hospital complex's School of Nursing, is supported by the Canary Islands Health Research Institute through the Canary Foundation for Health Research Institute (FIISC).
Over five days, healthcare professionals will attend thirteen presentations and discussions with speakers from the islands and the mainland. Topics will include the prevention and early diagnosis of rare diseases and lung conditions, multidisciplinary coordination in hidradenitis suppurativa, and the management of cancer survivors.
Furthermore, the development and implementation of the National Health System's Patient Safety Strategy by the Canary Islands Health Service will be explored.
The conference began on Monday with sessions on early diagnosis of rare diseases, unmet needs in interstitial lung diseases, and multidisciplinary coordination in Hidradenitis Suppurativa. Oncologist María Luisa Soriano will speak on long-term cancer survivors, while intensive care specialist Carmen Rosa Fraga will address critical patient safety. Engineer Óscar Díaz will present monitoring systems for environmental safety in surgical areas.
Wednesday will focus on creating safer patients and smarter hospitals, using examples from kidney disease and delirium management. Thursday's sessions will cover the present and future of Nuclear Medicine, the importance of unified care, and the improvement of perioperative safety in Europe.
The final day will be dedicated to the patient safety strategy within the National Health System and its development in the Canary Islands, with participation from the Deputy Director General of Healthcare Quality of the Ministry of Health and the regional head of the Patient Safety Strategy.
Additionally, throughout the week, a practical component will involve a simulation workshop using a Simman 3G robotic mannequin, employed for the training of healthcare professionals.
