The Hospital Universitario de Canarias (HUC) has reported an electrical fault that occurred yesterday afternoon during scheduled work on the center's electrical panel. The incident, which happened during a load transfer maneuver between electrical panels, affected the air conditioning system in the surgical area.
Consequently, it was necessary to reschedule the surgical activity planned for yesterday. Four procedures deemed urgent were transferred to the Hospital de La Candelaria to ensure continuity of patient care.
Upon detecting the fault, its repair began immediately, and the protocol for the Preventive Medicine service was activated to guarantee the necessary environmental safety conditions in the surgical area. The repair process was completed yesterday afternoon and evening.
Thanks to the swift resolution, the operating rooms at HUC are now in optimal condition, allowing surgical activity to proceed normally today.
The HUC is undergoing an upgrade to its electrical capacity, with an investment of nearly five million euros and the incorporation of four new transformers. This plan aims to enhance innovation and equipment requiring greater energy power.
The management of HUC has expressed gratitude to the professionals for their prompt action in resolving the incident and attending to the affected patients. They also acknowledged the collaboration of the Hospital de La Candelaria and the Canary Emergency Service (SUC) in facilitating the transfer and minimizing the impact on the essential surgical schedule.
