The Canarian wrestling event in Candelaria, held on August 13th, brought together athletes from various categories as part of the festivities honoring Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. The event featured the XII Minors' Wrestling, the VIII Women's Wrestling, and the XXVIII Institutional Wrestling.
The minors' competition pitted the Municipal Canarian Wrestling Schools of Candelaria and Tegueste against each other. The award for the most spectacular bout went to Diego Molina Ramos from the Candelaria school, while Isan Duque was named the top 'tumbador' (thrower).
In the VIII Women's Wrestling, the team Chacayca Guanches de Malpaís defeated the combined team from the Federation of Canarian Wrestling of Tenerife. Rosa Noelia Vega de León, from the federation's team, was the top 'tumbadora', and Leyre González Díaz of Chacayca received the award for the most spectacular bout.
The evening concluded with the XXVIII Institutional Wrestling, which included a demonstration of Lucha del Garrote. Subsequently, the combined team from the Federation of Canarian Wrestling of Tenerife beat the team from Fuerteventura with a score of 12-9. Khadim Gueye was the top 'tumbador' of the match, and Samuel Cabrera Cabrera from the Fuerteventura team received the award for the most spectacular bout.
The Institutional Wrestling was broadcast live on La 2 de TVE in Canarias, and the Women's Wrestling will be aired on delay on August 15th via Teledeporte, enhancing the projection of women's traditional Canarian sport.
