The vessel, situated about 50 meters from the shore, shows signs of having been submerged for an extended period, estimated between one and three months based on the observed colonization by marine organisms. This discovery has prompted increased surveillance by local and maritime authorities.
Images captured by the Güímar Local Police drone reveal the presence of encrusting organisms below the waterline, a key indicator for determining how long the vessel has been underwater. These features are commonly associated with vessels involved in the irregular trafficking of people or narcotics.
The primary objective at present is to ensure maritime safety in the area and prevent the vessel from posing a hazard to navigation. Two options for its removal are being evaluated: extraction by land or towing by sea.
However, current sea conditions prevent the removal operations from being carried out safely today. Therefore, the vessel will remain under observation while the optimal time for its eventual removal is determined.
