The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Economic Resources of the Canary Health Service (SCS), has awarded the supply, installation, and maintenance of a new PET-TC scanner for the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital Complex. The total investment amounts to 4,535,866 euros, including taxes.
This tender, co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), aims to promote strategic investments to modernize the healthcare system, foster technological innovation, and improve care quality across the archipelago. Of the total amount, 2,995,066 euros are allocated to the supply, installation, and removal of the current equipment, while post-warranty maintenance for eight years will require an investment of 1,540,800 euros.
The addition of this new equipment, which complements an existing similar unit, will strengthen the diagnostic capacity of the Nuclear Medicine department. The PET-TC is essential for treating highly complex pathologies, particularly in oncology, neurology, and cardiology. This hybrid imaging technology enables early diagnosis, staging, therapeutic monitoring, and personalized treatment planning.
The state-of-the-art technology will equip La Candelaria Hospital with advanced capabilities for generating high-resolution molecular imaging studies integrated with anatomical imaging. This will eliminate the current reliance on referrals to other hospitals, improving diagnostic access times, reducing waiting lists, and optimizing care pathways.
This acquisition represents a key strategic advancement in both clinical terms and healthcare system efficiency. Furthermore, the Hospital La Candelaria, as a university and research center, will enhance its teaching and scientific capacity through this technology, enabling the development of postgraduate training programs and clinical and translational research in molecular imaging.
The contract has an execution period of four months. Interested companies can submit their electronic bids until May 27, 2026, at 3:00 PM, Peninsular time.
