The council implemented this measure following a request from Public Health, prompted by a single unfavorable test result. This contrasts with over 200 previously satisfactory samples recorded since the area reopened on June 16, 2025.
Pedro Antonio Campos, Councilor for Finance and municipal spokesperson, explained that the latest Public Health test showed 800 units of contaminants. However, analyses conducted concurrently by a private laboratory commissioned by the council yielded values below 10.
Given this divergence, involving three samples from the regional body and five municipal ones, the council has formally requested a contrast analysis. Campos expressed confidence in a swift reopening, possibly within the week, based on historical control data.

The spokesperson emphasized the importance of basing decisions on scientific evidence to protect public health, the Puerto de la Cruz brand, and commercial employment. The restriction applies solely to Punta Brava, while the El Castillo and El Charcón sections remain operational.
While awaiting new official results, the council continues daily sampling and cleaning cycles. Additionally, sand cleaning operations commenced this week and will occur every Thursday.
On the institutional front, Campos has met with the Stop Vertidos Platform and the spokesperson for the Socialist Party, urging them to avoid political confrontation without evidence. He stressed the need to reassure both residents and tourists.
The local government is confident that the new samples will quickly resolve the situation and restore certainty to citizens, calling for unity and loyalty to Puerto de la Cruz.
