The carpet's design incorporates multiple references to the Canary Archipelago, including distinctive elements such as Mount Teide, the sea of clouds, and the blue chaffinch. Characteristic plant species of the region, like tajinastes and hibiscus, are also depicted, all within a composition dominated by warm tones that evoke the idea of a natural paradise.
A notable aspect of this year's carpet is the inclusion of the Pope's figure, a nod to current events, as the Corpus celebration will take place the day before his visit. Additionally, the Red Cross is represented as a symbol of solidarity with migrants, thus adding a significant social message to the artistic work.
The elaboration work began last Monday with the design tracing on the Town Hall Square. The placement of volcanic earth is expected to start next Wednesday, a crucial and highly anticipated moment in the carpet creation process.
The Corpus carpet of La Orotava thus once again combines art, identity, and current events in one of the most recognized cultural manifestations of the Canary Islands.
This edition also stands out for the joint participation of three generations of carpet makers, which highlights the continuity of a deeply rooted tradition in the municipality and ensures generational succession for its future.
