The Los Realejos City Council has renewed its commitment to vulnerable children through a 30,000 euro subsidy for Childhood Villages. The Councilor for Social Welfare, Luz Pilar García, recently visited the day center's headquarters in the municipality, where she learned firsthand about the work carried out with children from families in vulnerable situations.
This center, founded in 2013 and located opposite the CEIP La Montañeta, complements the municipal Social Welfare services. It offers academic support, development of emotional and social skills, and training in disciplines such as robotics and arts. Furthermore, children's rights are promoted, addressing proposals for the reduction of child poverty through the ‘3, 2, 1 ¡Acción’ project.
Luz Pilar García, in coordination with the municipal Childhood area, reaffirmed Los Realejos' commitment, as a Child-Friendly City, to continue working together on the application and fulfillment of children's rights.
The mayor of Los Realejos, Adolfo González, highlighted the "vital" work of Childhood Villages in the municipality for over a decade. He noted that the organization addresses the demand for specialized social support for children from families facing difficulties, thus complementing the City Council's service offerings.
Childhood Villages in Los Realejos provides daytime social care focused on the training, improvement, integration, and education of minors at risk and in vulnerability. Its preventive educational approach aims to foster the development and autonomy of minors, facilitate protective family environments, and strengthen their community integration.
