Following the summer break, the hospital, affiliated with the Canary Islands Government's Health Department, is launching several training sessions. These talks cover topics of interest such as Parkinson's disease, oncology patient care, diagnosis and treatment of idiopathic intracranial hypertension, acute kidney failure, tracheostomized patient care, and dysphagia management.
The 2026 program will conclude on December 16th with a talk titled ‘An Empty Chair for Christmas: Living with Those Who Left’, presented by the Palliative Medicine service. This initiative is part of the hospital's social commitment and its 2026-2029 Strategic Plan.
With over 15 years of operation and the participation of 25,000 users, this Patient Classroom, a pioneer in the Canary Islands, aims to analyze health topics through presentations by hospital professionals. Experts from nearly all hospital departments participate, including Nephrology, Rehabilitation, Radiation Oncology, Neurology, Pulmonology, Rheumatology, and Cardiology, with significant involvement from the Nursing area.
The primary goal is to address the needs of patients and their caregivers, promoting their active involvement and responsibility in managing their conditions. Concurrently, the Lymphedema Prevention Classroom and the Expert Patient in Mental Health Classroom are also developed.
