The Granadilla de Abona City Council decreed today the temporary closure of Leocadio Machado Beach. The measure was taken after analyses detected levels of Escherichia coli (E.coli) higher than permitted.
Consequently, a red flag has been raised, temporarily prohibiting swimming in this area. The Council reports that only Leocadio Machado beach exceeds the permissible levels.
New samples will be taken tomorrow, Wednesday, for a counter-analysis. The City Council has adopted this decision to ensure the safety of bathers. The beach will be reopened as soon as the new analyses confirm that the waters are suitable for swimming.
Beachgoers are advised to follow the restrictions indicated by the beach safety and lifeguard team.
