The Tenerife Island Council has approved the contract award for the construction of 47 public promotion housing units in Granadilla, a further step to alleviate housing access issues on the island.

The Governing Council of the Tenerife Island Council has given the green light to the contract award for the execution of works to build 47 public promotion housing units in Granadilla. This initiative aims to address the problem of access to rental housing on the island.
The vice-president of the Island Council, Lope Afonso, highlighted the island's strategy to undertake, for the first time as an Island Council, the direct promotion of public housing in the Canary Islands, in collaboration with the ICAVI.
The company SATOCAN has been awarded the project in Granadilla, with a total amount of 9,616,078.62 euros. This development is in addition to others already awarded this year, such as the one in Santa Cruz de Tenerife-Cuevas Blancas (226 units, over 33.5 million euros) and the one in Arafo (24 units, over 4.6 million euros).
Additionally, the Island Council has launched programs such as ‘Activa Vivienda’ (Active Housing), in collaboration with local councils to acquire or adapt properties for social rent (with proposals for over 300 units in 21 municipalities), and ‘Activa Suelo’ (Active Land), a fund to assist local councils in acquiring developable plots for the construction of public promotion housing for rent.
