The Island of Volcanoes and the Cantabrian Regional Society for Tourism Promotion (CANTUR) have formalized an agreement aimed at enhancing the promotion of both destinations. The agreement includes the exchange of tourist information and the development of joint actions in markets of common interest, seeking to increase visitor numbers.
The agreement was signed at the headquarters of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. Key points include mutual assistance in promotional matters, the exchange of advertising materials and tourism intelligence data, as well as the identification of initiatives to improve the positioning of Lanzarote and Cantabria as tourist destinations.
The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted that this collaboration will allow for a deeper understanding of the tourist demand in northern Spain and the sharing of experiences between both territories. The strategy focuses on strengthening Lanzarote's presence in this market and establishing promotional alliances.
A fundamental element for the agreement is Binter's direct air connection between Lanzarote and Santander, currently operating from May to October. The CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, indicated that initial occupancy data for this route are positive in both directions.
Fernández expressed the goal of this air route becoming an annual connection, although its continuity will depend on its performance and the airline's decisions. Potential lines of collaboration include family tourism, golf, referencing figures like Severiano Ballesteros, and gastronomy, seeking joint experiences.
For their part, the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Sport of the Government of Cantabria and president of CANTUR, Luis Martínez, emphasized the opportunity to generate new initiatives based on shared interests. The Director General of CANTUR, Inés Mier, stressed the exchange of initiatives and the adaptation of programs between both destinations.
